Dain turned to Pascal. “I’m giving Destrain, Clove, and Tobias one more day. If I don’t hear from them, I’m going to have to make a trip to the Pixie Realm. Avery will be put in charge, but Twix and Rhys said they will help him out. I’m going to need you and Ollie to hold things together in Maddox for me until I get back.”

Pascal stood up and started to put on his hat, down jacket, and scarf. “You might want to give them an extra couple of days, Dain. They had a lot to work out and you know the time difference is pretty major between here and the pixie realm.”

Dain grabbed his own jacket. “Maybe so, but they can work their shit out at home. I’ve barely had any time with my mates at all since I’ve had to take over Destrain’s duties as well as continuing with my Regent ones.”

“Dain, we need to be patient,” Pascal insisted, pulling on his gloves.

“Patience, my ass. I haven’t been laid in a week, Pas. Patience ran out three days ago for me. I’m so hard I think I have permanent zipper marks on my dick,” Dain grumbled.

Pascal laughed. “Well that’s a pretty picture, but I bet when you walk out into the six feet of snow and thirty below weather we have going on, you will need a magnifying glass to find your penis.”

“Oh, ha, ha. You know, since you mated, you’ve started sounding more and more like Ollie. You’re supposed to be the sweet one,” Dain muttered.

Grabbing the door handle, Pascal went to say something, but was stopped short when the room started to shake. Glasses and books began to fall from the shelves and Pascal had to grab the door handle to keep from being knocked to the ground. “What the heck?”

“It’s an earthquake! Open the door and stand just inside the frame!” Dain shouted.

Pascal gasped as the ceiling began to crack, yelling, “Protective dome!”

Dain barked out, “Good plan!” and snapped his fingers.

The dust and debris slid from the protective shell they were under. When the shaking finally stopped, Dain removed the protective barrier as they both looked around, shocked at the destruction around them. A bunch of broken beakers and test tubes littered the floor, mixed in with knick-knacks and books. “Dain, what just happened?”

“I don’t know, but we better get out here and see how much damage we’re facing,” Dain replied.

Pascal nodded, braced himself for the icy wind, opened the door and gasped, “What the hell?”

Dain quickly came up behind him and looked outside.

Hundreds of people were outside, and they were all looking around as shocked as Pascal was. There wasn’t any of the cold white snow to be seen. Trees were covered in leaves and some were in full bloom as butterflies fluttered from one flower to the next.

Pascal quickly removed his hat and jacket, panting, “It has to be a hundred degrees out there.”

Dain smiled wide. “Yes, it does.”

Pascal turned to the man he looked on as a father and saw the elation in his eyes.
